Sister Ann Bernadette Ormond had been in India for nearly a year and a half and had worked to learn the customs of the local culture, including the removal of shoes before entering sacred spaces. Known for always teaching her students to keep everything “spic and span”, one day in February 1952, Sister found herself in quite the predicament! Her companion, Sister Ann Cornelius Curran, couldn’t help but point out the amusing inconsistency between words and actions.

Sister Ann Bernadette Ormond, after exhorting her students to always keep their uniforms and their persons in perfect order, realized she would have to reveal the hole in her sock when she removed her shoes in India to enter a sacred space.
