Volunteers Give New Life to Stations of the Cross at Nazareth

On Tuesday, July 9, a small group of volunteers gathered at Nazareth to clean up the historic Stations of the Cross. These significant landmarks, primarily original to 1930, have been a central part of the campus, offering a place for reflection and prayer for nearly a century.

Join Us in Service: Volunteer

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth invite you to make a difference through our upcoming volunteer opportunities. Whether you are looking to give back, develop new skills, or deepen your faith, there is a place for you with us.

Building Bridges in Southern Maryland

Six dedicated volunteers from Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, and Kentucky came together recently in Lexington Park, Maryland, to support a newly developed ministry called “Building Bridges.” Their mission was to create a meaningful connection between the youth of Southern Maryland and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth community.

Mission Trip to Maryland

Next week, six SCN Lay Mission Volunteers will journey to Maryland to collaborate with St. Mary Ryken students on the “Building Bridges” initiative. This program supports local students who face challenges at home by offering tutoring, mentoring, and a safe space for connection. The mission involves painting and minor repairs at the center to support its expansion. The volunteers will stay at Camp Maria, providing a restful environment after their daily activities. We ask for your prayers for their safe travel and success, and will provide updates on their progress and impact.

SCN Volunteers Bring Joy and Accessibility to Willisburg Home

A collaborative effort between local SCN volunteers and visiting parishioners from St. John’s Parish in Hollywood, Maryland, helped improve the accessibility of a home in Willisburg, Kentucky.

Hollywood to the Heart of Kentucky

This week, four volunteers—Florence Schwalm, Rob Schwalm, Curtis Winslow, and Garrett Strzok – from St. John’s Parish in Hollywood, Maryland, will collaborate with Bardstown area volunteers. Their projects include constructing a deck with a ramp for a woman in Willisburg, Kentucky, and providing assistance to individuals impacted by last week’s tornadoes.

A Home in Honor of Sister Evie

Sister Evelyn Hurley, celebrated her 109th birthday March 7. In anticipation and recognition of the event, a lay missionary group traveled to Belize in February under the guidance of Sister Luke Boiarski, a dear friend of Sister Evelyn’s. The group’s mission was to build a home, in Sister Evelyn’s honor, for Dorla and her 6-year-old grandson, Tephawn. The missionary group included Sister Luke, Sister Sangeeta Ayithamattam, Sister Mary Ann Connolly, SC (Halifax), and six of Sister Evelyn’s family members.

Disaster Relief

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth have a long tradition of responding in times of disaster. Historically Sisters have responded to flooding in Louisville, the yellow fever epidemic, monsoons in India, a hurricane in Belize, and an earthquake in Nepal. Continuing in this spirit, the SCN Disaster Relief Program invites volunteers to offer spiritual and physical support to persons experiencing a disaster. Sisters and volunteers respond in the same spirit of Vincent de Paul with reverence for each person and witness to God’s presence in the midst of adversity. The Disaster Relief Program provides an opportunity to put faith into action.
