Witnessing the Faith Ministry of the Laity

January 31, 2024

Sisters Saroj Visuvasam and Saleth Mary attended the Basic Christian Community Revival Conference on January 26, 2024, at St. James Matric Higher Secondary School in Trichy. Approximately a thousand BCC secretaries and religious Sisters attended the conference. It was a historic juncture in the Trichy Diocese’s church history to witness such a large number of laity working at the grassroots level of the church to preserve the people’s faith. The diocesan BCC directors were present, including Dr. A. Amalraj, Bishop of Ooty, and Rev. Bishop Savarimuthu Arokiaraj, Bishop of Tiruchirapalli.

Many speakers highlighted the Second Vatican Council and the significant changes it brought about in the lives of people and the church as a whole. The laity’s active participation at the local level was remarkable. Both the speakers and BCC members were engaged in discussions. The general populace was happy to know more about contemporary church commitment. The BCC resolved to execute six initiatives for a few years.
