wandabanksWanda Banks, SCN, formerly Sister John Robert Banks, SCN, 92, a native of South Boston, Massachusetts, died at Nazareth Home on Sunday, October 25, 2015. She had been a Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 74 years.

Sister Wanda served in elementary education in Kentucky, Virginia and Massachusetts. After Sister acquired her doctorate at Boston College, she served as Community Supervisor in Virginia and as Associate Superintendent in the Archdiocese of Boston. Sister Wanda served from 1980-86 as SCN Provincial in Massachusetts. From 1988-91 Sister served as Vice President for Mission at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. In retirement, Sister served in the Apostolate of Prayer.

Survivors include Rev. Michael Banks of New York City, several other nephews and her religious community.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky, followed by burial in Nazareth Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Nazareth Home on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 and after 4 p.m. in St. Vincent Church, Nazareth, Kentucky. There will be a prayer service in St. Vincent Church at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.

    My mother, Betty Ann Rein Fisher’s best friend in childhood and High School. Now they get to laugh again! Rest in Peace Sister Wanda.

    Sister John Robert as sister was known 60 years ago was my 8th grade teacher at Nazareth School in South Boston. Sister was an excellent teacher and prepared many of my classmates to enter Boston college high School. and many other excellent High Schools. May the Good Lord receive her Soul and grant her the Eternal Rest she so richly deserves. My condolences to Father Michael and her extended family.
