Sister Luke Boiarski and Ellen Sprigg share their thoughts on the recent volunteer efforts in Montana.

Our SCN lay mission volunteers returned home last night from a week of service on the Crow Reservation in Pryor, Montana. Our hearts are filled with many images ranging from the big blue sky surrounded by the Mountains to the beautiful faces of the Crow people.

While there, we stained Chief Plenty Coup’s house. A couple of our men put down flooring for Burton Smith, who suffered a stroke five years ago. The entire volunteer group came together to paint and repair the house of Joanne and Maureen Rocks Ahead.

However, our trip was more than painting and remodeling. We listened to JR, Abby and Marla Goes Ahead share about the Crow heritage, their culture, their rituals and their spirituality.

All in all, our time was filled with hard work, laughter, prayer, and reflection. The time was truly an experience of bonding with each other and our brothers and sisters of the Crow community.

Working in collaboration with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth: Sisters Mary Lou Mendel and Sharon Smith hosted the volunteers.

We are deeply grateful to our hosts, Sr. Sharon Smith and Sr. Mary Lou Mendel Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, KS. and Larry FallsDown (our lodging host).

Our whole mission team will forever have this trip in our minds and hearts, “Akbaatatdia Ahooh”, God thank you!”
