Sisters in the garden

On a warm spring afternoon, the Sisters at Caritas Apartments got together to plant patio tomatoes and a variety of easy-to-care-for porch plants to brighten up their small porches under the watchful eye of our own Penn State Extension Master Gardener, housekeeping, and community health departments. These tomato plants are mostly heirloom varieties grown from seed. At the patio courtyard, the maintenance staff installed 2 communal raised beds which now house a variety of slicing and cherry tomatoes along with some sweet Italian peppers. Hopefully, the local deer will ignore them with the help of some potent Deer Stopper spray!

Taking a break from their labors, the Sisters enjoyed an ice cream social while dreaming of those tomatoes!
