After volunteering with Hand-in-Hand and Nazareth’s volutneer program in January to build a home for a family in need, Jacky Jesu, SCN, vice president of the Congregation, spent a few extra days in Belize to visit the Sisters and see their ministries.
During her stay, she had the privilege of visiting LIFE and meeting the staff who shared their roles in the organization. LIFE, or Living Independently in Full Existence, is dedicated to supporting the senior village residents in Belize.
Sister Jacky also visited Sister Kerry at her ministry in the Library at St. Martin De Poress School. The library is an integral part of the school’s educational program, providing students with access to books and resources that they might not otherwise have. Sister Kerry has made it her mission to ensure that every student has access to quality education.
The adventure continued as Sister Jacky went down south to visit Sister Higinia in Punta Gorda. Punta Gorda is a small town located in the southernmost part of Belize. While there, she had the opportunity to visit a couple of villages, meet the parish priest and parishioners, and enjoy local delicacies, a spice tour, and the beautiful Caribbean sea.
A stop was also made in Dangriga, where the Community got its start and where the Associates reside. Dangriga is a coastal town located in the Stann Creek District of Belize, known for its vibrant culture and rich history.
Sister Jacky’s trip to Belize was fruitful, as she covered a lot of ground and met a lot of people. Her visit gave her a glimpse into the heartwarming ministries that exist in Belize, and the people who work tirelessly to make a difference in their communities.
Jacky, i thank God you stayed in Belize to share life & ministry w/ our sisters & immersed yourself in the culture of the people. I drank the water”; so I went back in the early “90s!
What an opportunity to meet the people we minister to and to be a support to those who serve. Glad you were able to be in Belize for a house build also.
So happy you got to visit so many areas of Belize! “If you drink the water you will return”.
