The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth were recently commemorated through the naming of Sheehan Landing, an innovative, supportive housing project in Louisville, Kentucky. Named after Sister Mary Kathleen Sheehan, a key figure in founding St. John Center, this development underscores the Sisters’ impactful legacy in serving vulnerable populations.

Slated for opening in Spring 2025, Sheehan Landing will offer 80 furnished one-bedroom apartments designed for individuals facing significant physical and mental health challenges. This housing-first approach is complemented by comprehensive on-site services aimed at fostering stability, health, and community reintegration for its residents.

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth expressed their honor in participating in the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing their commitment to continuing the mission of compassion and service. This project not only honors Sister Mary Kathleen Sheehan’s legacy but also reinforces the Sisters ongoing dedication to addressing the root causes of homelessness.

Sheehan Landing represents a significant project in combating homelessness in Louisville. This project not only meets immediate housing needs but also symbolizes a hopeful future for supportive housing models in Kentucky and beyond.

I remember visiting St, John’s Centre many years ago. I was totally shocked at seeing so many homeless people. It was an eye opener for me. Providing shelter for the homeless is an act of mercy. May God reward the efforts of those involved in this project.
