A new video honors the life and sacrifice of Sister Preeti Chalil. Sister Preeti served in India and Nepal as a teacher, community leader, and missionary. She was tragically killed on Feb. 13, 1993, while serving at the Navjyoti Women’s Training Centre in Dharan, East Nepal.

Born Aleykutty Kuruvilla on July 26, 1950, in Kerala, India, Sister Preeti joined the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1970. She professed her first vows in 1976, taking the name Preeti, meaning joy, kindness, favor, grace, and love. Over the years, she worked in Biharsharif, Sokho, Hilsa, Gaya, and Dharan. She was known for her simplicity, kindness, and quiet strength.

The new video is based on material originally written by Sister Malini Manjoly, whose detailed account of Sister Preeti’s life and mission work provided the inspiration.

After attending events in Minneapolis, she stopped at the Motherhouse on her way to Houston, Texas, with her brother and niece. Sister Rose serves in Rajgir, overseeing a hostel for children.
