A Global Gospel Calling to
Empower Girls
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth have stood with girls since 1812, guided by Gospel values and a commitment to human dignity. Girls Rising is a campaign that supports young females to strengthen families and build communities. This ongoing effort reaches girls of varying ages across the six countries where the Sisters serve. Join us in advancing dignity, opportunity, and hope for girls worldwide.
Current Campaign: Helping Girls in Delhi Slums
In India, girls living in the Delhi slums of Gazhipur face daily challenges tied to poverty, instability, and limited access to education. Many come from families with little or no formal schooling and few financial resources. Parents do what they can, but options are limited.
These girls are often denied entry into formal schools because the required documents are missing. Without alternatives, girls are pushed toward unsafe work and early responsibility. The pattern continues unless access to education and support changes the path.
Girls Rising
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth respond by creating those alternatives. Through Girls Rising, the Sisters provide education support, skill building, and safe learning environments where girls are encouraged, respected, and able to grow. This work helps girls remain in school, build confidence, and move toward a future shaped by choice rather than circumstance.

Stories of Success

Turning Art Into Access
Aafreen is learning Mehndi to secure her future and support her family. She wants to reach women who are unable to leave their homes and help them earn through this skill. In the years ahead, she plans to teach Mehndi at a reduced cost to women from poor economic backgrounds so they can become self-reliant. Her story reflects the Church’s call to lift up those on the margins and create pathways to dignified work, echoing the mission of Nazareth to stand with women and families most in need.

Student Becomes Teacher
Saloni is training as a beautician to gain financial independence and support her family. Her long-term goal is to open her own beauty parlor where she can train uneducated girls and women at the lowest possible cost. She sees herself not only as a business owner, but as a teacher serving society. Her plan mirrors Catholic social teaching on the dignity of work and education as a means of strengthening families and communities, a core commitment reflected in the ministries supported by Nazareth.
