A catholic call to
Care for Creation
For generations, Camp Maria Retreat Center has been a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, offering peace, community, and encounters with God’s creation along the shores of Breton Bay in Maryland. Today, a new generation is discovering Camp Maria through hands-on environmental education, school visits, youth group programs, and family experiences.
Adding A Floating Research Vessel
Camp Maria hopes to launch a floating research vessel that will serve as a hands-on classroom on Breton Bay.
With a large deck for group learning, the vessel will allow students to conduct water testing, study wildlife habitats, monitor submerged aquatic vegetation, and better understand the health of local water systems.

Camp Maria is Ready for the Next Generation
The success of the new Nature Center has brought more schools, youth groups, and families to Camp Maria than ever before.
This new vessel will expand Camp Maria’s reach across southern Maryland, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C., while deepening the environmental curriculum for young learners.

Support Students As They…
Explore Creation
Students will learn directly from the waters of Breton Bay through observation, testing, and guided discovery.
Build Confidence
Outdoor learning helps young people ask questions, solve problems, and see themselves as capable stewards.
Protect Our Common Home
Rooted in Catholic teaching, this work invites students to care for creation as a gift from God.
The new Nature Center opened the door for more environmental learning at Camp Maria. Now, the floating research vessel will take that learning onto the water, where students can see ecosystems up close and understand why clean water, wildlife habitats,
and coastal stewardship matter.
