New Bishop of Gaborone

Bishop Frank Nubuasah, SVD, installed as Bishop of Gaborone, Botswana

After functioning as the administrator of the Diocese of Gaborone, Botswana for two years, the Most Rev. Frank Nubuasah, SVD, was installed as its new Bishop on August 17, 2019. Thousands of people from Botswana and beyond gathered to witness the event. Among the thousand present were the priest, Religious and laity of the Diocese, as well as ten bishops from South Africa and many priests from neighboring countries. The President of Botswana and the first lady were among the many dignitaries. President Mokgweetsi Masisi congratulated Bishop Nubuasah and spoke of how much service the Catholic Church provides in Botswana and around the world. The Apostolic Nuncio read the Decrees of Pope Francis and gave his message to the priest and faithful gathered. All present congratulated Bishop Nubuasah on becoming the fourth Bishop of Gaborone. It was a wonderful celebration of love and unity. See photos of the event here.

Nine volunteers from St. John’s Hollywood, Maryland, left for a mission trip to Belize on Sunday, March 26. This group is collaborating with Hand in Hand Ministries there to build a house for a mother and her three children. On Saturday, the team received orientation from Brenda Gonzales, SCN, and Laverne Schaefer, SCNA, after which a commissioning ceremony was held during the liturgy at St. John’s.
