“With God’s help, you will continue to succeed in your leadership and in your duties, because Our Lord’s work is accomplished not so much by the multitude of workers as by the fidelity of the small number whom God calls.” – St. Vincent de Paul

The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in Vasai, Maharashtra, greeted March 18, 2023, with joy and gratitude in their hearts at the multitude of blessings that awaited them that day. It was the occasion of the blessing of their new residence.

For over five years, the Sisters sought to build a new residence since the house they lived in endangered their safety. Yet, as women of simplicity, they waited until there was no other way but to bring down the falling structure. The new residence was blessed by Archbishop Felix Machado, the bishop of Vasai diocese, in the presence of 11 SCNs, the staff of Nazareth Schools, neighbors and well-wishers.

Elizabeth Jaya Rani, SCN, expressed her gratitude to two past leaders, SCNS Amrita Manjaly and Philomena Kottoor, for their vision and unceasing support all the way. The Sisters were gifted with a beautifully designed chapel entirely sponsored by Mr. Charles D’Souza, the builder of the new residence. Archbishop Felix, while praising the Sisters for their pastoral presence in the city, also valued them for their service to the special children of Vasai at Sanjeevani, the school for the intellectually challenged. It was a day of gratitude in the life of every SCN present.

This day was a day set aside to express gratitude to God whose benevolence made the vision of Sisters here a reality. They also expressed their gratitude to the entire team of construction workers. The construction also meant that Nazareth primary school children have a marginally expanded place to play around in the campus.

Congratulations, Sr.Jaya and Sisters. Now you can worship and sleep without fear. The old house when it was rather new in 1979 or 80, I was there, teaching in St.Augustine’s School. I love to see the new house, schools and the people there.
