Nazareth Campus Update – December 2023

Will Rosenbaum, director of Nazareth Campus Services, provided a campus update to Sisters at Nazareth on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023. The update touched on the following topics:

  • New hires in maintenance, housekeeping and food service, as well as a new assistant for the Nazareth Retreat Center
  • Exterior repairs/updates to O’Connell Hall roof, the Motherhouse porch, Rosary House, Mary’s Garden, Garden Pavilion, the rear campus entrance, employee spaces
  • Interior changes, including relocating the Visitor Center, Retreat Center Guest Services Assistant Office, and O’Connell Hall meeting room and new kitchen doors installed
  • Installation of solar panels on the mechanic shop to help meet the 2037 zero-emissions goal for the campus
  • Harvesting of 4,000 pounds of produce from the kitchen’s garden
  • Composting efforts to increase in the Motherhouse Dining Hall beginning Dec. 18
  • Installation of a new Peace Pole on campus and re-installation of the restored Sacred Heart Statue
  • Nazareth Villages changing zipcode to 40004 (Bardstown) to improve mail delivery to residents. *Does not affect Nazareth Motherhouse Campus zipcode*

Following the presentation, Sisters were given the opportunity to ask questions, comment or raise concerns. Those included:

  • Compliments regarding campus care and visioning for Nazareth
  • Clarification on additional composting initiatives, compostable carry-out containers and recycling
  • Request to look into temperature control of Motherhouse areas, including elevators
  • Questions about emergency procedures for impacted food and water supplies

Sisters at Shalom remain active and essential to the SCN mission. They participate in various activities, finding joy in each other’s company and group exercises. Today, many of the Sisters exercised their voting rights, showcasing their continued commitment to civic responsibilities. Their vitality and dedication inspire the entire community.
