Navjyoti Center Surkhet Hosts MSW Students from India

Navjyoti Center Surkhet hosted three Master of Social Work students from Loyola College of Social Sciences, Thiruvananthapuram, India, from May 5 to May 18, 2025. The visiting students, Alina Mariam Aji, Samrudha Sanjay, and Sandra Sanjay, participated actively in all the center’s initiatives.

Their experience included field visits to remote villages, distribution of educational materials, and provision of supplementary food items for pregnant and lactating mothers. They also visited income generation sites organized by women’s and cluster groups. At Navjyoti School, they spent time with children, teaching action songs and games.

Reflecting on their visit, the students shared how witnessing theory put into practice enriched their understanding of social work.

World Environment Day Activities in Surkhet

World Environment Day was marked with a series of community activities. Navjyoti School students held a rally promoting plastic elimination and environmental protection. They cleaned the Lattikoili road and planted trees and flowers along the roadside.

Navjyoti Center staff and volunteers cleaned Bhattegari village and planted 100 banana trees in the school compound. The day concluded with a community program in Karekhola village, held in front of the local slaughterhouse to draw attention to its negative impact on more than 600 families in Ward No. 13, Birendranagar.

The event featured Ghanashyam Bhandari, Minister for Social Development, as chief guest. He assured the public that the matter would be addressed. Other attendees included the deputy mayor, ward chairperson, human rights commission representatives, police officials, journalists, and members of the NGO Federation.

The issue, raised by Navjyoti Center Surkhet, has since gained public attention. A resolution is anticipated for the well-being of both the people and the environment.
