National Farm Worker Ministry is celebrating 50 years!

National Farm Worker Ministry (NFWM) is a faith-based organization which supports farm workers as they organize for justice and empowerment. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) support NFWM as a Member Organization. Felix Garza, SCNA, serves as the SCN representative.

An online exhibit has been created to celebrate and honor 50 years of ministry. Visit: www.nfwm.org/50for50 to read the stories of Felix Garza, Sister Tess Browne, Sister Carol Ann Messina and many others who have advocated for farm workers.

Grounded in faith, NFWM works side by side with farm workers and their organizing groups throughout the country, to organize vigils, picket, coordinate boycotts and educate constituents. NFWM brings together national denominations, religious orders and congregations, regional groups and concerned individuals to act with the farm workers to achieve fundamental change in their living and working conditions.

I remember Carol Ann and Tess fighting to eliminate the short handle hoe. Blessings on Felix who continues the struggle!

I can’t believe NFWM is 50 years old. Progress has been made, there is still more to be done. Without farmworkers many of us would not eat.
    Thank you.

How proud we can be for all the years SCN has had a representative on National Farm Workers Ministry! Thank you to Tess and to Felix for his 18 years serving there in our name. Of course we remember Carol Ann with gratitude.
