Mary James Corey, SCN, 84, was born in Chicago, IL. She died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, KY, on Saturday, August 25, 2018. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 61 years.
Sister Mary James served in educational ministries as an elementary school teacher from 1956-1979. During that time, she taught at Immaculate Conception in Ohio; St. Anthony, Sacred Heart and St. Thomas in Kentucky; and Most Precious Blood, St. Brigid and St. Anne in Massachusetts. She later served in secondary education at Presentation Academy, Louisville.
From 1980-1983, Sister Mary James served in health care ministry at Our Lady of Peace in Louisville.
She served her SCN Community as supervisor of food service on Nazareth Campus. She also volunteered at Candy for Caring from 1988-2014.
Sister Mary James is survived by her sister, Margaret Jude Corey, CSJ, and by her religious community.
Wake will be held on Wednesday, August 29 at 1:30 p.m. at our Lady of Nazareth Chapel, Nazareth Home, Louisville, KY; and that evening at 6:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Nazareth, KY.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Nazareth, KY. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.
