Marie Flowers, SCN, 50, was born in Detroit, Michigan. She died at Nazareth Home, Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017. Sister Marie had been a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth since 2014.
Sister Marie served as a social worker, primarily working as an advocate for children. She served as a case coordinator for NECCO Foster Care in Louisville and as an advocate for children at CASA of the River Region from 2014-2017. She also spent time as a volunteer for Sisters Place, serving homeless families in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Sister Marie served in health care ministry as a patient care coordinator for MD2U in Louisville from 2011-2012.
In 1994 she received a Master’s Degree from St. Louis University. Most recently, she served her SCN Community as the Western Province vocation director.
She is survived by her father, Michael Flowers, and mother Ellen Finan Flowers, of St. Louis, Missouri; her brother Mike (Lynn) Flowers of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; her sister Patty (Abdul) Adlabi of Manchester, Missouri. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, her religious community, and by the many persons whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held at Epiphany Church, Louisville, from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. Sharing of memories and prayer will be at 7 p.m.
The body will be received at Nazareth, Kentucky, at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, followed by sharing at 9:30 a.m. The funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Church, Nazareth. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.

Services and memory-sharing for Marie were deeply moving, beautiful and filled with the light and joy that defined Marie throughout her life. I’m blessed to have called her friend.
