It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Miss Dora Ross of Beattyville, Kentucky, on Saturday, April 21, 2023. Miss Dora was the founder and director of Kentucky Cornerstone Ministries. This ministry served the people of seven counties in Eastern Kentucky.

Through Kentucky Cornerstone, Miss Dora supplied food and clothing, assisted with home repairs to hundreds of people, and hosted volunteer groups at her home. Our SCN volunteers have collaborated with Miss Dora for over 13 years while helping individuals and families in Appalachia.

Speaking for all of us who knew her, Miss Dora was a woman with great faith, grace, and compassion, and her outreach was remarkable.
The funeral arrangements for Miss Dora are as follows:
  • Visitation at Newnam Funeral Home in Beattyville Tuesday, April 25, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
  • Funeral service at Newnam’s on Wednesday, April 26 at 2:00 pm.
Let us hold her family and dear friends in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time.
This last week, our volunteers stayed at Kentucky Cornerstone while working in Lee County. The group was able to spend time with Miss Dora. We talked about the beautiful impact she has made in her community and let her know how much they loved her. It was such an endearing time. We brought her flowers, laughed and prayed together before returning to Nazareth.
We will miss her dearly, but she will continue to be with us on our life’s journey. Call to her and pray to her. She is one of our Saints!
Blessings,
Sister Luke and Ellen Sprigg

Ms. Dora has been such a big blessing to so many people over the years. I remember when she came to Naz. once. Thanks to S. Luke’s leadership in responding to some of the needs of the people in Appalachia. May Ms. Dora’s spirit be with all the people she cared for in her home area and now be with all persons who love her in her new heavenly home. I treasure the memory of her visit at Naz quite a few years ago.

I give thanks for the long and endearing friendship of Ms Dora.
I always referred to her as the St. Theresa of the Appalachian Mountains.
Please pray for her family and the many people she touched and served over the years.
    She will be greatly missed.
