On Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, Sisters Carlette and Kerry joined hundreds from across Belize at Our Lady of Guadalupe Co-Cathedral in Belmopan to mark the opening of the Jubilee Year.
The event committee, chaired by Associate Abel Vargas, brought together an array of people from diverse cultures and traditions. Participants included both clergy and laypeople all contributing to the vibrant celebration.
The day began with a brief history of the Jubilee Year and its significance. As part of the opening rituals, the cathedral doors were blessed. A highlight of the ceremony was the procession of parish representatives from across the country. Carrying banners, they marched and danced into the cathedral to the entrance hymn Enter into Jerusalem. The multicultural Mass reflected the rich diversity of Belize and was carried out in various languages spoken by its people.
During the liturgy, attendees were blessed with holy water, and gifts representing the inclusion of all communities were brought forward in a procession.
After the Mass, the celebration continued with food and drinks shared among attendees.

Wow! How wonderful! The celebration sounded great! Thanks so much for sharing this story! It was great also to see Carlette, Kerry, Abel and all the cultures!
