On Saturday, October 8, 2022, SCNs Chris Kunze, Julie Driscoll, Michelle Grgurich, and Sharon Gray attended the first annual Inter-Tribal Water Gathering at Veterans Memorial Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The purpose of the gathering was a call out for all peoples to gather with indigenous peoples to join in honoring the blessing of water and restoring the sacred flow. A call was also sent out to tribal elders to join in council to strengthen intertribal relations and discuss water and water concerns to express a proclamation to all peoples.
It was a beautiful day filled with indigenous dance in the sacred circle. Native art and crafts were on display and for sale. One of the food trucks featured a Native American-inspired sage corn chowder. Water with Blessings (waterwithblessings.org) sponsored a pavilion where they demonstrated the simple water filtration system they have created that is serving native peoples across the globe.
The day culminated with the Water Council where the elders of the tribes came together to share their responses to key questions about water issues that resulted in the proclamation found here. The Western Province assisted in sponsoring the event with a donation. Enjoy some of the sights and sounds of the event via the pictures and videos below.
Thanks for posting the videos – give a great sense of the event. The proclamation is powerful.
Chris, Julie, Michelle and Sharon, thank you for sharing with us your expeience at the first Inter-Tribal Water Gathering.
It seems so in keeping with “Tread Lightly…” with which we begin our 2023 mantra. I appreciate the W. Province’s financial sponsorship. Thank you WPT.
