Over 350 guests visited Nazareth on Oct. 20 for a fundraising event to learn about and support the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth’s worldwide missions. Hosts Kim Huston, president and CEO of the Nelson County Economic Development Agency, and Jean West, journalist, news anchor, and community volunteer lead guests through a program that gave a glimpse of some of the powerful ministries that are happening around Kentucky and across the globe.
The program highlighted the vocation story and ministry work of Sister Paris Slapikas, director of Sister Visitor Center. Guests learned about a daunting water project in Nepal, led by Sister Aisha Kavalakattu and her enduring leadership to bring much-needed water to a community after a devastating earthquake. The evening was rounded out by testimony of the Congregation’s efforts to assist in the wake of the recent Western and Central Kentucky tornados and Eastern Kentucky flooding. A young boy named Alonzo shared a few words of thanks for the help his family received. He is pictured above.
“I have always admired their courage and their commitment to serving those on the margins of our society. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth love without limits and give of themselves always. God has a plan, and Sisters are a part of it,” was the sentiment expressed by Shane Fitzgerald, Chief Operating Officer for UofL Health.
The evening was a fundraising event for the Congregation. Those in attendance were asked to consider making a gift of support. Click here if you would like to make a donation.
I am so happy to hear of this successful event. It has always been inspiring in Louisville and it was time for it in our “hometown “
