How Sister Carlette Turned a Soggy Christmas into a 3-Part Fiesta

In Belize City, where the vibrant culture meets the challenges of everyday life, the ministry LIFE Belize has once again illuminated the lives of seniors with its annual Christmas celebration. This year, however, the festivities took an unexpected turn, adapting with grace and compassion to the whims of nature and the generosity of the community.

Sister Carlette Gentle

Originally scheduled for Dec. 13, LIFE’s much-anticipated Christmas party was reimagined due to relentless heavy rains that transformed streets and yards into muddy, wet landscapes. Undeterred, the ministry, known for its unwavering commitment to the elderly, split the celebration into three parts.

Part 1: A Festive Feast Delivered with Love

On the day the party was initially planned, the spirit of Christmas was not dampened. Instead, it found its way into the homes of each senior through a delightful delivery of traditional Belizean Christmas fare. The menu was a comforting embrace of rice and beans, succulent chicken, creamy potato salad, savory stuffings, rich ham, tangy cranberry sauce, and, for a sweet finale, slices of white and black cake. This feast, accompanied by fizzy sodas and the festive hues of green and red apples, was made possible by the kindness of anonymous donors who generously funded the ingredients.

Part 2: A Generous Gesture from Belize Electricity Limited

The second part of the celebration was a testament to the power of community support. Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) became a benefactor, embracing all 100 of LIFE’s seniors. On Dec. 22, each senior received a bin brimming with 42 essential grocery items. The sheer volume and variety of goods were so astonishing that many seniors were moved to ask, “Is all of this for me?” Indeed, it was. The 100 storage bins, a practical and thoughtful touch provided by BEL, were essential, as ordinary bags would have buckled under the weight of such generosity. This gesture was a heartwarming reminder of the impact of corporate kindness.

Part 3: A Gathering of Joy and Celebration

As the final act of this festive trilogy, LIFE hosted the in-person Christmas party on Jan. 19. The gathering promised to be a jubilant affair, filled with the melodies of Christmas songs, the laughter from games, and the excitement of prizes. A delicious meal was served, symbolizing a celebration of the season and a belated birthday party for those whose special days fell in December and January.

LIFE Belize extends its deepest gratitude to everyone who made these events a reality for our cherished clients. From the anonymous donors to the generous support of Belize Electricity Limited, every contribution has woven a tapestry of joy and care that will be remembered for years to come. This series of events is more than a celebration; it’s a powerful reminder of the beauty of community, the strength of collaboration, and the enduring spirit of giving in Belize City.
