Planting, sun and fellowship surrounded an Earth Day celebration at Caritas Apartments in Pittsburgh on April 22.
To highlight sustainability and care for the earth, participants planted pollinator-friendly plants such as violets and pansies as well as parsley and dill. These plants offer habitat for a variety of butterfly species. Small patio container gardens were also planted with lettuce and kale.
Director/Business Manager of Caritas Support Services Bette Nelson, who organized the celebration, said an existing pollinator garden, herb garden and mason bee house on the property are beginning to stir with life this spring. View more Earth Day photos here.
