A Great Adventure
For 18 years, Sister Luke Boiarski, has brought people together across cultures and communities through prayer, service and relationships. As she prepares to retire from the SCN Lay Mission Volunteer Program, Sister Luke reflects on the people, unexpected journeys, and shared experiences that shaped a ministry reaching around the world.
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Disaster Relief Program will uses these funds to provide immediate aid to individuals and families affected by disasters. This funding will enable the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth to respond quickly and effectively, offering essential supplies to those in need during times of crisis. Example are:
Food and Water
- Purchase nonperishable food items such as canned goods, rice, pasta, and protein sources.
- Provide bottled water and baby formula for infants and families in need.
Clothing and Warmth
- Supply new clothing, including socks, gloves, and coats, for individuals affected by disasters.
- Distribute blankets to provide warmth and comfort, especially during cold weather.
- Provide electric and propane heaters when appropriate to the need.
Cleaning Supplies
- Supply disinfectants, sanitizers, brooms, mops, and other essential cleaning items to help families recover from disaster-related damage.
Damage Mitigation Supplies
- Provide supplies for temporary fixes to damage caused by disasters. Items may include tarps, boards, and trash bags.
Transportation and Logistics
- Cover fuel and transportation costs to deliver supplies directly to disaster-affected communities.
- Ensure the efficient distribution of aid by supporting volunteer travel and delivery coordination.
The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth have a long tradition of responding in times of disaster. Historically Sisters have responded to flooding in Louisville, the yellow fever epidemic, monsoons in India, a hurricane in Belize, and an earthquake in Nepal. Continuing in this spirit, the SCN Disaster Relief Program invites volunteers to offer spiritual and physical support to persons experiencing a disaster. Sisters and volunteers respond in the same spirit of Vincent de Paul with reverence for each person and witness to God’s presence in the midst of adversity. The Disaster Relief Program provides an opportunity to put faith into action.
