One way the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in the United States used their COVID-19 relief “stimulus” funds sent by the government was to donate to organizations working to assist people in the areas of greatest need due to the pandemic, organizations dealing with food, rent, immigrants and homelessness. On July 1, 2020 checks were wired to these organizations.
Through Sister Marilyn Shea, who contacted Associate member María Melendez in Puerto Rico, Sisters received information about “La Fondita de Jesus,” an organization that cares for the homeless.
“The pictures that I just sent were taken yesterday at La Fondita de Jesus in San Juan, Puerto Rico, an organization that has been providing services to the homeless for over three decades. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth provided funds to this organization to assist with the current crisis created by the COVID-19 virus,” says María.
