Committed to Compassion: Living Out the SCN Mission and Charism

Posted by Spalding Hurst

March 14, 2023

At the Provincial House in Patna, three individuals made their first commitment that would change their lives forever. Along with them, 12 others from Patna and Mokama renewed their commitment for another year. These individuals are Associate members of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, a community of individuals who are committed to living out the SCN Mission and charism in their own lives.

The SCN Associates are an important part of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth community. They come from all faiths and backgrounds and are united by a shared commitment to the values and principles of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and Mother Catherine Spalding. Through their commitment to the SCN Mission, the Associates deepen their spirituality, build community with other Associates and Sisters, and reach out in compassionate service to others.

The commitment ceremony was a deeply spiritual and joyful event, and it began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration, during which the Associates were officially welcomed into the SCN community. The Mass was a celebration of the new members and their commitment to the SCN Mission. It was a reminder of the importance of community and service in the lives of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.

The Associates stood before the altar, and one by one, they affirmed their commitment to living out the SCN Mission in their own lives. The commitment included a promise to deepen their spiritual lives, to build community with other Associates and Sisters, and to engage in compassionate service to others.

Through their commitment, they have become collaborators in actualizing SCN Vision and Mission, thus making a difference in the world, one act of compassion at a time. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth are grateful to these new Associates and are inspired by their example of service and dedication.
