South India begins celebrating Pongal, a four-day harvest festival, from Jan. 14. The festival marks the end of the winter solstice and the journey of the Hindu sun god Surya to the north. Pongal is traditionally prepared in clay pots decorated with leaves, flowers, or kolam artworks. Chandapura community joined in the celebrations.
