SIster Helan Sathiya shares that St. Francis of Assisi Academy in Marereni, Kenya, held its first Annual Sports Day on Sept. 12, drawing wide participation from students, teachers, and parents. The event marked a milestone in the school’s history, celebrating athletic skills and community spirit.
The day opened with student remarks highlighting the role of sports in promoting teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition. Students then filled the field with lively activity, taking part in races and games such as the tire race, balloon breaking, skipping, and the lemon and spoon. Younger students competed in water-filling contests, while parents joined in specially arranged events that added to the joy of the day.
Mr. Festus Gwama, principal of Marereni Comprehensive School, served as the chief guest. He praised the school and its Leadership and called on parents to support the academy in its mission to build discipline and excellence. The presence of Father Nicholas Kileo, along with Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, teachers, and members of the Parent-Teacher Association, gave the occasion a strong sense of unity.
Prizes and gifts were awarded to winners at the closing ceremony, capping off a day of spirited competition. Teachers and students worked diligently to ensure the success of the event, which will be remembered as an important moment in the life of the academy.
