Sister Ann Palatty, SCN, died on Dec. 6, 2024, in Vimalalaya Hospital, Bangalore. She was a professed Sister of Charity of Nazareth for 57 years.

Born into the warm embrace of a loving and God-fearing family on Sept. 15, 1947, in Mookkannoor, Kerala, Annamma Palatty was the eldest of nine children born to the late Thomas and Elia Palatty. From her earliest days, she was destined to lead, nurture, and inspire. She identified herself as a woman of independence. Ann answered the profound call to spiritual life at a young age, entering the SCN Congregation in December 1964. Her journey of faith deepened as she made her first profession on May 25, 1967, and her final commitment on June 21, 1974.

Her life was a masterwork of service and dedication. Ann was a gifted soul, blessed with remarkable intelligence and exceptional skills in language and leadership. She was an educator, administrator, and spiritual guide whose influence radiated far beyond the institutions she served.

Her academic brilliance was evident when she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Sophia College, Mumbai. Though offered a scholarship for a Master of Arts program by Bombay University, Ann chose a path of obedience, dedicating her talents to serve where she was needed most. This choice exemplified her humility and commitment to her vocation. She later went on to complete a bachelor’s degree in education from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a master’s degree from Bombay University.

After beginning her ministry at St. Xavier’s School, Mokama, Ann’s passion as an educator blossomed as she took on leadership roles with grace and foresight. As Principal of St. Michael’s School, Sale; Nazareth Academy, Gaya; and Nazareth Convent School, Vasai, she transformed these institutions into abodes of excellence.

Sister Ann Palatty was a trailblazer and a woman of vision in her role as the first Provincial of the Bangalore Province. She was not only a leader but also a mentor and a loving Sister to both her Palatty family and the SCN family. Her love for the SCN family was outstanding. In October 2022, when asked to support the Province by guiding the administration at Marian English Medium School, Anakkampoil, Ann had no hesitation in saying yes. She did not allow her age or health to be a reason to sit back and enter her comfort zone. Her life was a testament to forthrightness, resilience, and a deep-rooted passion for God’s work.

Ann’s journey was marked by an indomitable spirit. She battled cancer three times, overcoming the first two instances with remarkable strength and faith. Even as her health waned, her passion for teaching and inspiring others remained undiminished. She poured her heart into teaching pre-novices English and dramatics, finding joy and purpose in every moment of connection and guidance.

On Dec. 6, 2024, Sister Ann completed her earthly journey, surrendering her spirit to the God she so lovingly served. Though her physical form may rest, her legacy endures in the hearts of those she inspired and in the countless students who still call her their loving Principal.

Sister Ann Palatty lived a life that reflected the light of her faith, the depth of her love, and the strength of her spirit. As she enters eternal rest, her memory continues to guide and uplift all who knew her. She joins now her dear parents, her loving sister, Mary, and the many SCNs whom she loved and who preceded her to eternal life.

The Mass of the Resurrection and funeral rites of Sister Ann Palatty was on Dec. 7, 2024, at Nazareth Convent, Chandapura, Bangalore.
